Introduction: 6 Passivhus plus housing development (Certified to Passivhause not only drastically reduces energy use, but it also produces as much energy as occupants consumes, turning them into Passivhaus Powerhouses. The energy generates must come from renewable sources and provide enough energy to operate the building throughout the whole year).
Remit: The brief for this development was to supply and install an indoor ASHP, ventilation and hot water system with automatic and remote access/monitoring control system.
Due to the onsite conditions we were unable to follow the mechanical consultants design and had to advise, redesign and install while onsite.
We were able to complete the install in an efficient manner that allowed other trades to work and install the materials in the same space. The onside conditions called for some innovative materials and workmanship to complete the first fix of the development to the passiv hus plus standard.
The ventilation unit that we installed is not a traditional ventilation unit. In contrast to other ventilation units, it recover 100% of the heat from the extracted air. The counterflow heat exchanger makes it possible to recover up to 95% of the energy in the extract air. It has been awarded two certificates that specify the system’s ability to provide a passive building with ventilation.
